Gang-rape of minor girl: Coimbatore court postpones verdict to March 20


COIMBATORE: A mahila court in Coimbatore on Wednesday postponed its verdict on a sensational rape case to March 20. 

The matter relates to the rape of a minor girl by her maternal uncle and four others. The case was registered in April 2012, and the accused -- G Gopalakrishnan, 59, R Karuppasamy, 59, S Karuppasamy, 45, T Balu alias Balasundaram, 72, and a juvenile - were arrested in February 2013. Gopalakrishnan is the maternal uncle of the victim. 

The accused were charged under sections 376 (G) (Minor girl gang-rape), 506 (I) (Criminal intimidation) of the IPC and sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. 

The court was to pronounce its verdict on Wednesday. However, Judge M P Subramanian postponed the verdict to Friday after the defence lawyer sought two more days to submit his written arguments.
